Zombies..... Different zombies but zombies. Lots of science lots of action.

Better than Orbs, but still not on the Hell Divers level. The writing needs work as far as character depth, but the story line is great. I really like that this author has such a range of stories.

Is there a possible romance brewing between Kate & Beckham? (I hope so!) There is good science behind the infected, but I wouldn't consider this a true zombie story. The military aspect seems almost forced, but not exactly realistic (based solely on other military fiction I've read). The author makes a point to let us know that the infected still have some sot of humanity left deep inside (a "hint") which makes them less mindless or monstrous at times, although it is unclear if this is really the case or if it is wishful thinking on the protagonist's part.

Gibson's character is the epitome of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." Overall good story.

Re-read 5/12/16. I liked this book better the second time around. Great action, just a touch of romance, and lots of twists and turns. Probably a better read when taken as one part of the series, rather than as a stand alone. I devoured the series and it would have driven me crazy to read just one.

A completely silly yet engaging novel.  Pure escapism with a good chunk of gore.  You'll roll your eyes at the dialog several times and the science is ridiculous but Smith can write a great action scene.

Cheesy mediocre zombie story. Enough said.

Also, I can tell this was written around when Ebola was a big scare.

I gave this 2 stars instead of 3 stars because of the looming romance that starts in second act (but was blatantly telegraphed in the first few chapters), wrapped in yet another wacky engineered virus spells doom for human race (excepting the plucky ones and the sexy, single female characters). FFS, how BIG is the market for zombie apocalypse romance??!!
What really soured me was the illogical use of a SpecFor team in a urban war zone that contains hundreds of thousands of enemy combatants. There was little intelligence gathering, sniping is laughably inefficient, and every engagement (predictably) turns into a complete rout and mad dash for safety. It gets ridiculous after their evac leaves them in a war zone for the third time. Completely manufactured for maximum book thrillz and hard to swallow. There is much better out there, trust me.

I loved this book! I thought it was unique and exciting. I loved the hard science behind it, as well as the action packed plot. Also, the characters were well written and enjoyable. I loved this book from beginning to end! It's a definite recommend.

Too formulaic for me.
