“Maybe that was the trick to life: to notice all the tiny moments in the day when everything else fell away and, for a split second, or maybe even a few seconds, you had no worries, only pleasure, only appreciation of what was right in front of you.”

This was such a great book. At first, it seems to be a story about changing your life and how our choices affect our future. But ultimately it became a story about love and loss. I loved Alice’s journey as she tried to do all she could to savor time with her father. Ultimately I feel like it’s a story about learning that deep love also means devastating loss, and it’s about appreciating the people in your life. Alice becomes a different person throughout the book and I loved following her growth.
I love a good time-travel, magical realism book and this was a delight. The relationship between Alice and her dad was so meaningful. The story was both heartbreaking and heartfelt. Alice’s best friend Sam was a top tier best friend and I loved her. This book is special for anyone who is grieving the loss of a loved one or someone who wants a story about a wonderful father-daughter relationship. The audio added so much to the story. I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time!
It has a midnight library feel but far less complex plot lines. 3.5 rounded up.
More like 3.5 stars. Fun plot. Great characters. I really enjoyed reading it.
