This book hit the spot in terms of being exactly what I was in the mood for the first half of the novel. I was in a great reading mood so it didn’t really affect me, but I found the last portion of this book to be kind of inconclusive and a bit boring- I’d expected more. But this book was very empathetic and observant, and I adored the relationship between Alice and her dad and also her best friend- it was sweet to discover that the story was inspired by Emma Straub’s relationship with her father.
The very best of the magic of NYC combined with a sense of impending mortality. The novel is somehow compelling while also urging you to stop reading right this instant! and go outside and spend time with your loved ones! but then come back inside and keep reading!

Time travel- I'll eat up any books with a compelling time travel premise. This book was pretty good, I just couldn't help feeling bored the last quarter and it took me a few days to get through.
Alice's father is sick and dying in a hospital room. She can't stand her boyfriend. She's turning 40, and her best friend is rarely available due to having a family and a life away from NYC. Alice ends up at a bar alone. Drunk and sad, she ends up at her childhood home, where her dad would still be, if he wasn't dying. Alice falls asleep in the shed, since she can't find her key. When she wakes up, she's in her teenage room- as her teenage self- it's her 16th birthday. Miraculously, her dad is there, young and not sick.
Alice attempts to fix things repeatedly by going back and forth between her 40th birthday and her 16th. As these things go, she finds herself unhappy with all her "fixes." The book only explores a day or two of her changed future, and I think it would have been more compelling to explore those days deeper. As she goes back and forth, over and over, you get short blurbs about what has happened. The book gets a bit repetitive. Alice constantly tries to save her father from his fate.
Overall, it's a good story. It didn't make me feel much, as it was a bit boring, imo.

Fun time loop with an interesting angle, multiple loops changing her future with different choices on her 16th birthdayd. But, it's really a story about having aging parents and the chance to connect with them again.
Not bad. The ending seemed rushed, like the author knew she needed to finish writing in a few pages.
