Such a sweet story of love, redemption, grace and God’s love.

I devoured this book over a winter break I spent at a friends house a few years ago.

I saw the movie and had to buy the book to see if it was also as bad. It truly was, staying true to the book. I was taken to the movie by my friend who assures me that the teens in her youth bible classes she helps lead are obsessed with this. I don’t really understand why as I imagine they are drawn to the romance but there are far better books to deliver that. No matter your personal beliefs, the story was the definition of heavy handed with many plot points just plan unnecessary for what the author wanted to illustrate (as this is meant to be a telling of a bible story).

It seems to exist simply to say ‘women are whores and trash and this particular woman (MC) is the trashiest whore of all but can be saved by the love of god’. Ok, great, but maybe use a subtler hand and you don’t have to keep depicting her as empress of the trash whores to do so. People, women, are complex and given some of the influences in her early life it’s far easier to land the message with a more nuanced and relatable depiction. This was just lazy plotting, lazy writing, and frankly gratuitous bludgeoning of a point for the sake of making it (and I can’t say I agree with it either).

Save yourself by not reading this and giving a disclaimer to any teens you know who may (also my opinion of viewing the movie). It couldn’t get more awful if it tried, though surely it did to be this bad.

Just not for me. I got about 1/3 of the way in and decided I didn’t really want to devote any more time to this one. A respected friend recommended it, so I gave it a try.

Love this book. It's one that I can read over and over

Woowwww. Woorden schieten me te kort. Ik ga niet eens proberen uit te leggen wat dit boek zo mooi maakte want dat zou me niet eens lukken. Wat was dit boek een emotionele rollercoaster. Ik kan niet anders dan dit boek 5 sterren te geven!

lots of tears, but well worth the read

This is my favorite book! I usually don't read a book more than once; however, I've read Redeeming Love twice and will probably read it again. It is a retelling of the Book of Hosea in the Bible- an allegory of how God continues to love us even when we betray him over and over. It is a beautiful depiction of God's unending love and grace. I usually have good self-control but I stayed up too late reading this book because it was so good!

June 2021-I just read it again and still loved it! It has such a powerful message on how God does not give up on us despite how many times we walk away from him.
