this book is amazing. i have read it more times than i can count and i keep coming back to it. it's honest, and brutal, and so frustrating at times you just want to shake some sense into angel! but the love micheal shows her, unconditionally, is bigger than all of that. i don't think you can read this book without crying at some point, from sadness or happiness!
but what makes this book so great, and why i keep rereading it, is how it parallels our relationship with God. being such sinners and running away over and over and over again, but His love is bigger than that. and so forgiving it almost breaks your heart.
the writing is flawless. the story is so moving. and i don't think i've ever recommended this book to someone who didn't love it!

I saw the previews for this movie and it looked so good. Then I saw it was based on a book by this author. I know this author writes Christian Fiction, which is not what I read. I then found the book used so I decided to go for it. The book is too long for my tastes. It is a constant battle of the woman leaving and the guy bringing her back over and over. It is based on the story from the Bible of Hosea and Gomer. That is not a story I know so I was still in the dark while reading. So God tells Michael he is going to marry a prostitute. Michael is not happy about this but it is the will of God. Angel wants nothing to do with Michael. She was sold into prostitution at eight years old and knows nothing different. She has no idea what real love is. Michael tries to show her, but she feels completely unworthy. So everything is a battle with her. I appreciated though that Michael hears God's voice and Angel hears the devil's voice. Although people in this book constantly hearing God talking to them is a little eye rolling. If only it was that easy to know what God wants us to do.
"It doesn't feel good to be used. Whatever the reason."
"You know, sometimes you can hurt yourself more by trying to keep yourself from being hurt!"
"Sometimes people become too caught up in the problems of day-to-day living to notice the pain in someone else."
"You're a bird who's been in a cage all your life, and suddenly all the walls are gone, and you're in the wide open. You're so afraid you're looking for any way back into the cage again."
"Just because you don't believe in the Lord doesn't mean his power isn't working for you."
"Forgiving others for what they had done to her had come far easier than forgiving herself."
"Stand against the darkness, and love. That's the way back to life."

This book is so beautiful, heartbreaking and comforting. It makes the story of Gomer come to life. Hosea is a true picture of God's love for us. This is truly my favorite book.
I expected a fantastic book with great revelations. This book did not deliver on that front. It was a nice romance story based on the Bible and true events. It was enjoyable but nothing great.
May be the very last person in my town to have read Redeeming Love, but I now know what all the hub-bub is about. Fantastic story and now I can accurately critique the movie when I see it next week. ;)
In my opinion only Todd Spencer (of Robin Jones Gunn titles) is the written equivalent to Michael in this book and will tie as my bookish-crushes from here on out.

This book took me forever to read. A large part of this was I had great difficulty getting into the book. The first 100-150 pages were not very engaging. I really did enjoy the book by the end and am glad I read it, it it was a bit longer and drawn out in certain areas than it needed to be. Otherwise I would recommend it!
This book was phenomenal. It was beautiful and heartbreaking in the best ways. The characters and story were compelling and relatable. It has also caused me to pause, reflect, and examine myself. The parallels and metaphors of the care, love, sacrifice, and forgiveness that Hosea gives Angel is a wonderful fictional mirror of Jesus love for us. If I could give it more than 5 stars I definately would.
Not bad but really beating you over the head with the Christian fiction.
I loved the perspectives of when God talks to us in our mind and how there are many times we don’t want to listen or we ignore him. But it was so nice to know he’s always there and that even when we might not know what we’re doing, he knows and we should trust in Him. I loved that this story was so real, connected to real life and real emotions. Just in awe of this book really.
