Meh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.

“Feelings can be the most costly thing in the universe.”
The Distance Between Us, revolves around the life of seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers who leaves school early to work at her mom's doll shop.
“What are you going to study when you go?”
No idea. “The long-term effects of philosophical wanderings."
“How about the art of sarcasm?”
“I’m pretty sure I’ve already earned the equivalent of a master’s in that one.”
She's a sarcastic beauty, but behind that facade, she's insecure. Her rich father left her mother when she was pregnant, leaving her to make a life for herself and the baby. Caymen has now spent her life observing and being wary of the rich.
In walks Xander Spence, a charming, funny and super rich guy from her town who proves to be everything contrary to the stereotypical rich that she's grown to despise.
"Caymen?”
“Yes?”
“You look terrified. Does this scare you?”
“More than anything.”
“Why?”
“Because I didn’t bring my mints.”
“And now the real answer . . .”
“Because I’m afraid that once you catch me, the game’s over.”
I sigh. "My mom and I had a huge fight."
"About me?"
"So arrogant. Do you think everything is always about you?"
"What was it about?"
"You"
Xander and Caymen's romance manages to be sweet, flirty and endearing without being overwhelming. Their relationship evolves slowly and I think that's what gives it the added beauty.
It doesn't really get many points in the originality department but the fact that it manages to be entertaining from start to finish somehow makes that not count.
I wish the story was a bit longer, but overall was a sweet read, something that I needed at the moment.
3.75/5 the beginning was a little boring for me but the second half was much better THIS REMINDED ME OF GILMORE GIRLS
If you are looking for a cute, cheesy, clean, quick read, then this is it! Another Goodreads reviewer made the comparison that this book is a Pretty in Pink meets Pride and Prejudice kind of book. And I would have to agree!
The story follows Caymen, a girl who, due to her mother's past experience with a rich ex-boyfriend and eternal disdain for the "Haves" (compared to the "Have Bits"), has certain opinions about rich people, since her mom raised her to think very negatively about them but also due to her own experience with the rich "Haves" in her doll shop that her mom owns and where Caymen works. So naturally, when rich boy Xander walks into their shop and "beckons" her, she's pretty much already had her mind made up about what kind of boy Xander is...until he won't leave her alone and keeps showing up at her shop to walk her to school and is able to match her wit and sarcasm.
I pretty much thought I had the book all figured out until the author decides to throw me a curve ball that I wasn't expecting. I should've guess SOMETHING was off but I didn't because I got lost in the cute blooming romance between Caymen and Xander.
It was cheesy but hey sometimes a little extra cheese is ok right? RIGHT! And that is what it is. It's a cute romance all wrapped up with a nice big bow. And it has a happy ending!

Dear Kasie West,
please stop writing adorable books. I had a life before I went on this book binge. At least, I think I did.
Thank you,
Indira

What I like:
Caymen's dry humor and Xander's charming, easy going attitude, even if his "people" are stereotyped to be spoiled, he surprisingly isnt. He's actually too honest for him to be true, and I wish I could see his smile. The story's not that uncommon but I find the book cute and easy to read, It's perfect for a summer -- after high school graduation -- read. I'm starting my senior year in college and this book made m think about other options and possibilities for myself.
What I dont like:
The title. It doesnt quite fit the story at all. Yes, the distance between them is their social status but really?! I honestly thought this is about some ldr relationship (that's why i picked it up in the first place hehe) but I was surprised when nothing happened that would make them distant. I really like the story but I just think that maybe another title would be much better.
