I just finished this book and I got to say WOW!!! I was impressed. This book hooked me from the very beginning.
Agent Sayer gets called into a crime scene where a teenage girl is found dead from dehydration in a cage with a puppy. A huge mystery as to why the cage and the puppy. Sayer has a difficult time tracking down the killer. Team members are hurt and some have gotten killed. This serial killer is always one step ahead. With leaks in the department and DNA forensic evidence that is almost too perfect for the crime Sayer has to wonder if it is an inside job.
Will Sayer solve the mystery before someone else dies?
This book was well laid out and flowed naturally throughout. The character building was spot on and we got to know our characters. I loved the twists throughout the book and was constantly second guessing myself on who done it. This book was filled with action and danger. An edge of the seat read, that is sure to be on your #1 TBR list. With a tiny cliff hanger at the end, I am hooked waiting to read the next in the series. This is a must read.

This was really different. A new twist to a detective thriller with a “bad guy” I didn’t guess after assuming the whole time I had it figured out early on. This kind of eludes to another book & I’m hoping that is so.
Thanks to Minotaur for this early copy:)

I love serial killer thrillers, so I was really excited to read Caged in the month of October - since I'd heard it was good and creepy, I figured it would fit in perfectly with the Halloween season! Caged started off with a bang, and kept me hooked the entire time. I originally planned on reading a few chapters before bed (I should have known better!) and ended up reading more than half of the book before I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore, and then finished the rest of it in one sitting the following day. I couldn't put it down! I was so hooked!
I really liked Sayer as our protagonist. She was a multi-faceted character who generally does a good job at separating work from her emotions (you have to in her job, otherwise you'd go crazy), but as her case progresses and more young girls are involved, she can't keep her emotions in check any longer. We get a glimpse of her background, in the mention of her fiancé who died while working a case for the FBI, and it definitely made me want to learn more about her character. There will be another book coming out next year that also features Sayer, so I'm excited to learn more about what happened with her fiancé, and to learn more about her in general.
I loved how fast paced the book was - I didn't feel like it dragged at any point. The killer in the book is very smart and meticulous - everything was well thought out and well planned, so fans of similar books (think The Fourth Monkey and UNSUB) will like this one! It's dark, but not as violent as Karin Slaughter's books, so people who like the subjects she writes about but have a hard time stomaching her gruesome, graphic descriptions should find this one to be a nice happy medium. I had a theory in the beginning of the book that turned out to be wrong, and didn't see what was actually happening until it was about to hit me in the face, which is always a win in my book - I love a good twist! All in all, I rated this one 5 stars, and am very much looking forward to the next book in the series! I definitely recommend this one to fans of twisted serial-killer-thrillers!

Thank you to the publisher for sending me this book to read and review!
Caged had the potential to be a really interesting police procedural/thriller novel, and I found myself really enjoying the premise of the whole book, but there were just too many things I didn’t like that ruined everything for me. I found myself struggling to pick it up at times, but when I did end up getting to it, I found it hard to put it down because the story kept me enthralled. Some of the things that a few of the characters said and did just didn’t sit well for me. As a huge fan of police procedural novels and TV shows (SVU, anyone??) I’ve become accustomed to how cops act when in certain situations, and some of the characters in Caged just appeared to brazen. Even their dialogue became a bit tacky at times, resembling the cheesy talk between people that just makes me cringe.
Despite all of that, I could have given this Caged a better rating, but the ending just blew everything out of the water for me. The whole novel centers on FBI Agent Sayer Altair hunting down a deranged serial killer, and every page builds up to the discovery of who the culprit is. That being said, once I discovered whodunnit, I was SO DISAPPOINTED! I feel like a random character was chosen to be the killer, and none of it added up to anything. That character had the means to do the killing, but I don’t believe for a second that the character had clear motives. In the end, I found myself almost skimming the book just to get it over with because I spent the entire time reading this book just to be let down by the ending.
Honestly, Caged got a lot of rave reviews from what I’ve seen. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought it was just okay. Maybe it will be a better read for you, I’m not sure. Maybe I know nothing about cops and FBI agents and how they work, but I know that I found myself underwhelmed by the book as a whole. Read with caution!

I received a copy of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review.
I could not put this one down! I was hooked right from the beginning - I loved the main character and her evolution throughout the story. Parts of the book were slightly disturbing, but nothing over the top. I found this to be a very refreshing thriller, different than anything I've read lately. I'm a sucker for any novel involving a serial killer, but this one had a slightly different spin on it, which I appreciated. The story had just enough twists/pivots in the narrative to keep the reader guessing. I would very much recommend this one!
