Okay, I wanted to like this like Divergent, I really tried. Maybe I should have known better after Allegiant, but I was willing to see where this wet. It just wasn't for me. I think it's worth the read, just not for me.

Wow! I was gripped and couldn’t put this book down! The story sucked me in right away. I can’t wait to read the sequel!!!

I really liked the worldbuilding that the author created here - a great mixture of science fiction and fantasy. The magic system was creative and limited in expected ways. The characters are also compelling, but I found the romantic storyline a bit predictable.
I took an issue with the ending because it didn't feel like an ending. It clearly setup for a sequel, but I wasn't really sure how any of the conflicts were resolved at the end.

This started INCREDIBLY SLOW. However, once it was underway I can say it got good quick. Cyra is an excellent fighter - so much that she is able to to train Akos - and incredibly resiliant. I love her quick wit and her strength of character. And then there's Akos. The sweetest boy ever. I think I fell in love with him. He was perfect. Can I have 1 life size Akos age 35 please? I mean seriously.
Moving on . . . The other characters in this book, though very important in their own way, didn't hold a candle to Cyra and Akos. Can't wait to see what happens in book 2.
