Fucking cliffhangers ....
The book was really slow paced at first and it was hard getting into it , I was so close to giving up on it . It got better afterwards but it was not that good , I especially did not see the relationships developing , I got confused with the timeline , the POV's etc... I loved Cyra's character and now I want to read the sequel !!!

.......BOI........ i just... i can't... i.... *sobs* good old veronica roth, just SLAYING the world with her god-like abilities, somehow, this was as good as divergent and made me cry my eyes out. a lot. wanna die rn tho because the next one doesn't come out for a year rip

Okay, so reading the book I understand the big problem people are talking about. There are two races in the novel - Shotet and Thuvhesit. Thuvhesit are seen as peaceful and light skinned whereas the Shotet's are seen as violent and are dark skinned. I don't think Roth did this on purpose but it is a bad writing choice.
I have deiced to rate this book just regarding the plot and characters.
Overall I enjoyed the book. I was hooked on it from the beginning. I enjoyed the characters and I liked seeing the character development and I can;t wait to see what happens in the next book.

There is no doubt this starts so slow. Roth doesn't give you a lot of time to get into her world building, but just jumps in and it takes some effort to settle in (although, I believe, that is the characteristic of LOTS of popular fantasy/sci-fi series). Once I settled into it, I enjoyed the uniqueness of the story. There is a fair bit of unnecessary repetition (especially when describing people) and some places where I was confused by the character's actions. But, I appreciate that none of the characters are truly sympathetic and I like where this book stopped. I do think because of the heavy world building, its probably a series better read in as close proximity as possible, because it could be difficult to jump back into the world when picking up the next in the series.

I feel like Veronica Roth has improved so much since Divergent. I was having such a good time with this book, the characters were interesting and easy to get invested in, and the worldbuilding was quite well-thought-through. 4.5 stars.

Slow, boring, confusing. Feels like large chunks are missing, so many thinks just don't make sense. Had to force myself to finish it. The only think I liked was some of the descriptions but it was really dull.
