I really enjoyed this book. The narrative voice really suited the story and I really enjoyed the style of writing that verged on stream-of-consciousness at times. For covering so many deeply sad topics/events, the book managed to keep up a good pace while still allowing the story to have emotional heft.

This book!! It is so full of unbridled beauty and darkness. It paints the underbelly of foster-care and opioid abuse in this country in a new light. I was particularly touched by the main character's unbelievable faith in humanity after consistently being exposed to devils and cowards. 3/4s of the way through, the main character's circumstances were so horrible that I almost gave up, but I am glad I stuck it out until the end, which surprisingly left off on a hopeful outlook with possibilities ahead. I will think about Demon Copperhead for a long while, I think.

Think it’s important how much this highlights poverty and the perspective it gave.

Because of the style of the narration (of an older Demon recalling the story), it blurred the timing so it could be difficult remembering just how young Demon was supposed to be during certain segments.    Thought he was a good choice in POV character.

I listened to about half of it on audio—Charlie Thurston did an excellent job bringing Demon to life!
