She should stick to comedy and not writing.  There were some interesting back stories but overall it was more of a pictorial of Nicole in bikinis.

After reading so much fat studies academia, sometimes it can be refreshing to read something written by someone existing in a fat body without existing with a brain chronically academiapilled or whatever. The language is messy and sometimes "wrong" but the heart behind it is clear: this is a book made by an entertainer to encourage a general population, and it damn well works at what it does.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just adore Nicole Byer (Nailed it is just amazing) and I love these books about body positivity. So I had to try out this book, and I can tell you I loved it and will be adding it to my collection when the book releases in May!

This book is about body positivity and then especially doing stuff in a bikini. Nicole can list around 199 things you can do in a bikini and encourages you to add some more. Some of the things include baking bacon (though she recommends not wearing a bikini for that :P), bench-pressing a baby, throwing bags of potatoes in the ocean, and more. I had such a big laugh at this one.
She even includes a guide on finding a special bikini for two occasions and there are plenty of tips on how to overcome and be brave! I loved reading those tips. I am not fat or overweight, but I got enough body issues that I drive my hubby crazy, so I was happy with those tips. I hope I don’t offend someone, given that this book is about fat + bravery and I am in the OK weight range. But yeah, body issues are real. God, I wish I could just love my body.

I'll be honest, I'm only giving this 4 stars because I adore Byer and I want her book to be successful. The book itself is kind of disappointing. It's very much in Byer's voice, but it turns out that voice isn't half as effective in written form. She's way better when you can hear her actual voice. That said, about 2/3rds of the book is just pictures of Byer in about a billion amazing bikinis. I'm very jealous.

You'll like this if you like the podcast Why Won't You Date Me. I'm not sure there's much here for you if you aren't already a Byer fan.

This is barely a book and I barely read it.

However, Nicole Byer is hilarious in any form. Is the book funny? Yes. Does it offer good tips? Maybe. Is it informational? Of course not.

Do I want to wear a bikini now?  Yeah... yeah I think I do.

This book is some kind of systematic desensitization exposure therapy. She just says fat fat fat and spams pictures of her wearing swimsuits that fat girls usually don't wear in poses fat girls usually don't do and she looks like she's having a blast. She looks fantastic.

So yeah, maybe I will wear the bikini I bought this summer and if anyone says anything I'll just moo.
