I love reading Isabel Allende's books, I compare them to watching a miniseries versus a 2 hour movie. Ines of My Soul was no different. Allende has the rare talent of creating a historical character and story that reads like really good fiction.

pretty good historical fiction about the conquest of chile; there's no doubt that allende writes with a lot of skill. i gave this 2 stars primarily because it's not my thing and because i started to find the battles redundant. also, i felt that she could've done a better job bringing the reader back in time.

The historical research and Allende's writing skill are evident, but this particular story isn't among her best. I just couldn't engage with Ines and the book is told entirely from her peespective.

The third historical fiction I've read from Isabel and I like her style

Review later.
adventurous informative slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I always like reading historical fiction. This book was a harder read for me than it seems it was for others. I've only ever heard good things about her style, yet I had a hard time staying focused while reading. Maybe it was all the Spanish names.

Anyway, interesting read about the founding of Chile and the native Mapuche tribe.
challenging dark fast-paced

I love historical fiction, and it doesn't hurt when the book is directed to "Isabel."
