I give The Alchemy Of Moonlight by David Ferraro 3.7 stars. David's writing style is fantastic; it has an ease to it that makes the story flow well. For a debut book, it's really well-written. However, as is often the case with debut novels, the pacing and coherence of the story sometimes falter. There are moments where it feels a bit inconsistent. The beginning part of the book is somewhat slow and occasionally feels a bit tedious, but the second half finds a better balance.

You can tell that the first half was still finding its rhythm. The story itself is engaging: trapped in a world of straight expectations, queer marquis Emile longs for independence. As Emile becomes more entangled in the household and its paranormal origins, his inquiries draw the attention of the handsome doctor, Bram, and the count’s charismatic nephew, Henri.

The characters are clearly defined, and I think that as David continues to develop as a writer, he will produce even better books. He should be very proud of this one. The potential is there, and it's evident in this promising debut.

It's giving "and we'll do it with the power of friendship" but like I'm not mad about it.
Mixed feelings throughout the book, but I decided to round up to 4 bc I truly did enjoy it!
Mostly rounded up bc they all ended up together in a poly relationship!! THANK GOD. I was going to lose it if he ended up only picking one of them after ALL OF THAT.

I think the thing that threw me off was the amount of plot twists in the book. Like kept me on the edge of my seat for sure, but by the end, I was just expecting another "BUT WAIT-" I just didn't trust anything by the end, which could be a good or bad thing depending on what you like.
I think it was overall a pretty cool book. Loved the romance and tension and the resolution was satisfying for me. The characters had faults which I enjoyed. The plot was tense and horrific at times, but the book had enough lighthearted dialogue and romance to balance it out.
