One of the best books I've ever read. Totaly absorbing!

After finishing this book, I had to take a step back and think about how I really felt about it. I had previously started American Gods on two other occasions and always ended up leaving it unfinished. I'm so glad I made myself actually read the whole thing!

The book is basically centered on the fact that two Gods are fading due to lack of worship and sacrifices being made for them. So they come up with this scheme to create enough chaos and bloodshed to last them hundreds more years.

The concept of American Gods was very unique and I like the way it all came together in the end. My only complaint was the relationship between myself (the reader) and Shadow (the protagonist). Shadow was the pawn in Mr. Wednesday's scheme, and when it was revealed what their relationship actually was and we learned how important he was to the cause, he still seemed disjointed. I didn't get the feeling that he was important, he was just there.

Very entertaining and imaginative, but tough to follow at some points I'll admit. LOTS of characters, LOTS twists in the plot, LOTS of misdirection so to speak which I guess was the point, once the penny drops in the final quarter of the book. There are a lot of 'side branches' where the story sort of shoots of in another direction, ultimately to provide background information of some of the many gods, but making it a bit tricky to keep track of where you are in the story. I had to a break from it a few days here and there, but it was definitely worth it to stay with is 'til the end.

Hands down one of the four books I found enjoyable enough to read many times over. This book was in many ways kinda troupe heavy but it worked! I might be biased because this book has helped me so much but its an amazing read in my book nonetheless.

incredible.
