This was a solid read! I love me a good messy read and this did it for meeee. I thoroughly enjoyed the deep conversation about grief. Grief is something we will all experience so this book was a reminder of that. But at the same time, the way feyi and Alem dealt with this grief, was beautiful to see. I don’t know if there’s a part two, but I LOVED this one.

this was beautifully written, and bends genres so artfully, just not necessarily my type of story

Feyi got on my nerves so many times. Does grief give her the right to be a jerk?!! First, hooking up with Nasir after being involved with her friend. Then, lusting after Nasir's father after both men did so many things to boost her career. WTH?!!!! Rarely, do I get so annoyed by protagonists doing stupid things since it's usually a standard romance book formula (people meet, people lust, someone makes a mistake, learn the truth or error of their ways, and then make some dumb gesture to make things right, lastly queue happy ever after). Argh... I could write more about why this book annoyed me (i.e. the author could have turned this story of so many situations dealing with bisexuality, grief, cultural homophobia, family crises, sexual consent, friendships, etc. into something beautiful) but it's not worth it. Sadly, there are folks out there like her so I can't say it's unrealistic.

First book I've read in about a month and this was a perfect summery book to get me back into the swing of things :)
