San Francisco big book sale 2017 - a little treasure
I liked best the cat in the noh play neko no pijama (the cat's pajamas), cat "semaphoring the psalm of life to the world in general", and the dismal tarot card cat.
favorite neglected murdereress is a toss up between the one who chopped up 19 loggers in Oregon and the one who eviscerated her daughter in law with a crochet hook and then made her shroud.

We have here a series of postcards about proper looking women with a sentence or 2 about how they killed someone. One woman kills her daughter in-law with a crochet hook and then crockets a shroud for her. There are 12 postcards.
The artwork is amazing with fine details of backgrounds and wallpaper. I thought this was amusing. Subverting expectations is the game here. Gorey loves murder.

Dangerously dark, comically black, Edward Gorey at his best. Unsettling narrative scenes speaking louder than words.

Another odd gem by Gorey. The title suggests an incongruous juxtaposition, and the book itself does not contradict.

I was in the mood to read something a little peculiar, and certainly lucked out when I stumbled across this title of Gorey's. The book is very creative, and details, both in wonderful illustrations and accompanying words, cats engaged in a number of unlikely feline pursuits, as well as a series 'neglected murderesses' from history. The inclusion of both such obscurities here felt a little odd; Gorey certainly lulls one into a false sense of security by showing a lovely row of cats practising on a barre, and then detailing women who had poisoned husbands and the like. A memorable and rather quick read.

Cat with pea and walnut shells hoping to deceive.
Cat about to conduct a hitherto unknown overture.
