Something like ten years ago a friend of mine recommended this book to me. I bought it and then it sat on my shelf for a decade. It wasn't that I didn't want to read it, it sounded interesting, but I have not seen the tv series/movie that this is a prequel to (not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to prequels) and I have a a rather large pile of books. Nonetheless, I have finally read it and enjoyed it pretty well. I love a good haunted house story and enjoy an evil house story even better. This scratched all the itches. Rose Red is pretty creepy and Ellen is a good conduit to the tale. It gets points off for taking forever to get to the point.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

Obviously inspired by the Winchester House and Stephen King’s fingerprints are allll over this

also lesbian occultists are par for the course in Seattle these days

Unfortunately logic wasn’t there but

(this is a fictional diary written under a fake pen name to promote Stephen King’s Rose Red series)

This book is essentially a low rent House of Leaves.

I remember watching the limited series Rose Red on ABC when I was a kid. This story has always been appealing and had to read the book. Once, I found out that Stephen King didn't write it... This story keeps the reader intrigued from cover to end. Highly recommend.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this. I'm not sure why. This is the kind of horror/suspense novel I like. Not too gory, mysterious, I liked that it was told as a diary. It left things open in some cases to imagination. I really enjoyed it. Only gave it 4 stars because I wanted more LOL

The Rose Red Miniseries by Stephen King is the only reason I picked up this book. It was written as publicity for the series. However, it was not written by Mr. King, it lacks his style.

The idea of a diary for Ellen intrigued me but by the time I was finished reading I was left with a less than satisfactory feeling. The book concentrates on sex, violence (I was expecting), and revenge. It painted Ellen as a woman very focused on what others think of her and extremely melodramatic.

It was also hard to parallel the events in the ‘diary’ with the events in the miniseries – they didn’t appear to add up. My advice, stick to the stuff actually written by Stephen King.

This book was so good and the Stephen King tv adaptation was even better.

This book is really just a novelty if you're a fan of Stephen King's Rose Red tv show/movie. I liked learning a bit of the history but its clear the book was written from a male POV. Ill probably never read it again.
