There’s a line in this book that summarizes how I feel about it; “-it says nothing, gives nothing. That I don’t understand it and that probably no one does and no one ever will.” I was so excited to read this book based off of how much positive things I heard about it. I was severely disappointed at the end. The main character Samantha was an incredibly frustrating narrator. She goes off on tangents that aren’t relatable to the story at all and honestly if you skipped them you wouldn’t be missing out story wise. For example, there’s a scene in the book where she talks about a place called “Falling Falls” for two LENGTHY paragraphs because it appears on her souvenir mug shes using. I lost sight of the plot so many times because of instances like that. I actually liked the story too, it was weird and interesting but most of the time was actually spent describing something totally unrelated. It was an excess of random tangents. I almost DNF but decided not to because the story itself was good. The execution of it all was a miss. The best way I can describe this book is it’s like a fever dream.

I had to Google wtf this book was about because I couldn’t figure out what I thought of it. Once I did (and confirmed my initial theory) I felt very smart. Before that, I felt like a dumb person who read very beautiful prose. Might be a personal preference but I don’t like when books do this. (Not that books shouldn’t make you think, just that there should be the tiniest bit of clarity)!
