2019 review:

Decided it was time to pick this series back up again. This volume had good art and an interesting story, I especially enjoyed the more human elements with Luke and Jessica, but the extremely objectifying way the female superheroes were drawn made it impossible to rate this any higher than 3 stars.

A solid reset after Secret Invasion. Luke and Jessica look for their baby as all the heroes attempt to figure out what they are going to do with Norman Osborn running the Avengers. Bendis writes big books and team books well. This is just further example of that point.

This was ok.. Getting Danielle back was kind of anti-climactic. There is still a lot of distrust and paranoia in the superhero community and I'm getting a bit tired of it now! Also Bucky is now Captain America... It's very weird seeing him use a gun!?!

I did not like the weird mix of artists used for the character POVs towards the end of #50. Especially my least favourite Ms Marvel artist Greg Horn... His stuff makes me want to vomit.

Basically the "hidden" Avengers, trying to figure out how to take Norman Osborne down while staying out of prison. Not a huge fan of this line up, they don't really feel like Avengers to me, but it's not a bad series.

My only complaint is Maleev's artwork in Secret Invasion Dark Reign.

This volume really behind the dark reign when people handed the keys to the kingdom over to Norman Osborn. Dumb idea but it makes for an interesting story and this volume of New Avengers is solid

I’ve said how if you like Bendis this’ll work and if you don’t it won’t, that applies here as well. This is definitely a Bendis title.

My biggest problem is the lack of focus on Spider-Man. He doesn’t seem as smart as he is in his main title and Norman Osborn is HIS villain. So what gives.

But it’s a really enjoyable read with Luke Cage going after his kid and the setup for Dark Reign.

Though I’m giving it three stars because of Spider-Man and the whole strain on Luke and Jessica’s marriage is never addressed here, it just went away.

3 stars.
