When I was offered an arc for this book I think I changed my answer at least three times. I first thought this wasn't gonna be for me. Then I started doubting because so far I liked Caulder's books a lot. Then I wasn't too sure again because Marstens and I aren't always a good mix. And then I eventually decided to give it a go and to see what it would get me. After all, if I discover the book isn't for me I can always simply not finish it, right?

Although I was quite right that this book is different from the books I usually prefer, I'm one of those rare people reading reverse harem, but not reading it for the smut, I actually enjoyed this book quite a lot and certainly a lot more than I feared! And that's mostly because the writing of this book is amazingly well done. I was sucked into the story and I just couldn't stop reading. The story was addictive, the story was fun and there was even more plot than I expected!

I also quite liked how the first chapter, even though it's only one chapter, told us all we needed to know about the world above, the situation our heroine was in and what was going on. Some people need countless of words to build their world, but these authors managed to build it without info-dumps and without endlessly long descriptions. And they repeated the process again with the world below, the world of the monsters.

The journey of the heroine is also quite amazing. I have to admit that at times things go a little fast, but everything that happened fitted the characters. Where the focus in the beginning is on the bond between the heroine and her monsters, it's clear that the focus slowly shifts towards the more political aspect of the book. And it's quite clear the authors really thought about all of this quite well! Just like they clearly picked the right heroine for this story.

I'd love to read more books set in this world!

A must read for all Monster lovers!

Wow!! From start to finish, I couldn't put it down. I had so many questions and was so curious, and it was not a let down. Not only was the story engaging, but holy hotness! Whew, it got hot and steamy! Loved it and want more!!

Why choose monster romance.
Wish the story had focused on Sera ruling instead of the lead up, but overall it was an enjoyable easy read

Captured by the Monsters kind of disappointed me. Mostly because this was on my radar for a while. My heart hurt a little every time the publication got pushed back. It kind of felt like the book and I were doomed from the start. Still, I kept hope within me alive because I really wanted to dive into this book.

Unfortunately, things just feel flat. In the beginning, we sort of get mysterious selection vibe and then we are thrown into the world of mysterious monsters. Are they or aren't they being sacrificed? Will something else be happening? Well, of course something else was going to happen people. The monsters somehow find love at first sight with our main character.

Then things dip into the dark and weird. If I was ever told I had to live off of someone's something and never be able to eat anything ever again. Well. I would sacrifice myself right then and there. Could just be me though but I can't give up burgers and wine for that.

Other than that, you definitely get your fair share of romance. Mostly because that's all you really ever get. Yeah, there's some drama thrown in there but not a whole lot happens. It's basically an orgy for your eyes the entire time. Which, I'm not really complaining since I love the smut. I just wanted a story to go along with it.

In the end, it was an okay book. I was definitely expecting something different and darker than what I got.

fantastical world with a relatable FMC

I really don’t see enough books with a main female character who doesn’t want kids, and the story lets her find her own happily ever after. The savior trope isn’t my favorite but these monsters were yummy and he premise was original. Who hasn’t thought about being selected to be sacrificed to the monsters?

Started strong but between the dialogue (not the worst but also not the best) and the ending being a little cringe….the story fell a little flat for me. I did appreciate that
while it was obvious she was going to be the queen, the author did a nice tease to the reader that she may not have been the queen at all by having her test multiple times with the stone.
