Started strong but between the dialogue (not the worst but also not the best) and the ending being a little cringe….the story fell a little flat for me. I did appreciate that
while it was obvious she was going to be the queen, the author did a nice tease to the reader that she may not have been the queen at all by having her test multiple times with the stone.

DNF.

I needed a little more world building, time to digest what's going on before hitting plot point after plot point, plus intimate scene. I finally started getting some context at around 100 page mark. Sorry.

This book released TODAY and I was lucky to receive an ARC! I knew straight away I’d like Sera as she’s a strong FMC

After being drafted by her government, Sera was forced to being a sacrifice. She was being sent to a place called the Down Below. Surprisingly, the stories and legends she has been told are far from the truth.

I've been on a monster book binge for a few weeks now. With all of these monster books coming out, you would think I would be burnt out of this theme...well, guess again. RL Caulder and MJ Marstens did an incredible job together. Everything flowed beautifully and loooved our FMC. She was so strong, even though she was terrified. Definitely, would love to read another co-write from these authors!

Enjoyable read

This was a different take on monsters and it was a good read with great characters. I loved the ending and how Sera stuck to her promises while allowing for flexibility in her beliefs. The ending was adorable.

These authors individually are amazing, their stories and characters completely engross you within the worlds they create. Together…wow.

Somehow the authors were able to create an extensive world, more like two worlds, with rich history, lore and characters. Although labeled as a monster romance, it was more than that. I love learning about the history and seeing the changes that the worlds have gone through. I do hope they expand the series more so that we can see the results from this book.

As for the characters, their journey was focused on coming together both from different worlds but also as different individuals. Our FMC was strong, determined and confident, a great character. The stars of the book, of course, are the monsters. From their physical attributes, varying personalities and… extras the authors added, I enjoyed every interaction with them.

A great standalone for monster romance lovers.
