Another rare occasion when I didn't finish a book. I didn't care about any of the characters or the storyline which was disappointing as I'd really enjoyed Kim Edwards' last book.
This book revolves around a woman returning to her hometown, rediscovering hidden relations from her past. It was a beautiful, mysterious, and inspiring tale of redemption, family skeletons, and I was intrigued throughout the whole book.
A very slow read and the plot wasn't that interesting until the end. The story could have focused more on what happened with Art and the ex-boyfriend.

I just could not get into this book. While I did enjoy the unfolding of the mystery in the story, the characters felt superficial and were hard to like - including the narrator. I really enjoyed The Memory Keeper's Daughter, but I was dissapointed by Edwards' second novel.
While I didn't dislike this book, I just wasn't invested in the narrative. Mid-way through I didn't care what would happen with the main character's romantic entanglements, I didn't feel a sense of anticipation of how the pieces would come together, and even the pivotal moments felt perfunctory. I had compassion for the main character, but didn't particularly relate to her. The most interesting parts of the book involved secondary characters whose stories were much more engaging to me.
Read this one pretty quickly while our power was out thanks to Sandy! I really liked it. Definitely recommend it, much better than The Memory Keepers Daughter.
Disappointed as I was expecting to really enjoy the book based on the premise and how much I really liked The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I think the main problem was I just didn't really like Lucy very much. She was SO into finding out this history based on a few small items that I just didn't get why it meant so much to her. Plus she was very annoying with her mother and other family members. Interesting tidbits of the Finger Lakes area, even Doug's Fish Fry got a shout-out. Did quite a bit of skimming to finish.
I really liked her first novel, so I went into this hoping for good things.
I think the writing style has greatly improved, but to be honest, I didn't care one bit for the main character or for the main storyline. I wanted to know more about her family history and the story of Rose was just fascinating.
