Didn't hook me; Might try again latet
informative slow-paced

It was sometimes rather graphic, but interesting to learn about the lives and the times. I listed to the audio book and needed to go look at a family tree a few times to keep the names straight.

This is definitely an above-average book, though, definitely not one for history (but you can find more about that from the other reviewers; it is what it is). The book is meant to tell an awesome story of one of the lesser-known figures in history and it does so very well. I was impressed by how much I enjoyed it. It has given me a new lens to view the familiar, old stories through.

Worth reading for sure.

The idea behind this story was excellent. The execution wasn't. The gratuitous violence and sex (and the picture it painted of Jacob and some of his sons) left me feeling sick to my stomach. I wouldn't recommend it.
