I liked the protagonist, but I wasn’t very hooked on the plot. The resolution of the mystery felt unsatisfying. However, I can absolutely see this being someone’s favorite book. The perspective of the protagonist accurately describes the thoughts of an extremely anxious and depressed woman. As one myself, I can confirm. I’d recommend it to fans of Kathleen Glasgow and Turtles All the Way Down.

I did not expect to shed a tear or two when reading this book.

I thought this will be a light contemporary book with a sprinkle of dark humour  in it. Oh boy was I wrong.

I just wanna say to other people who considers reading this, especially for those who have anxiety, the writing style is very chaotic and it might overwhelm you. Please read with caution as there are a lot of panic attacks scene in the story.

But then you'll also get this kind of writing too, which is delightful.

I bet that baby would be absolutely baffled to hear why she’s enduring this. Imagine someone forced you to wear a miniature wedding gown, dunked you underwater in front of an audience of your loved ones, and then explained that their rationale for doing so was so that when you die your spirit would fly to the clouds. If I were this baby, my first words would be “fuck off.”

I enjoyed this so much tho. This book is so funny and ironic and tragic and isn't that what life is?

Another dark "comedy" I didn't think was funny. It's hard to make depression interesting, but the author took a good crack. I don't think the voice acting was badly done, but I don't think it quite matched, at least not all the time. Good job of tying up the end. I think it would've all grabbed me a bit better if I were as young as the protagonist, maybe, but that's not the author's fault.

This was a difficult read. Surprisingly triggering and upsetting, but in a good way. The author perfectly encapsulated depression in such a vivid way that it hurt. I was aching, especially near the end. I was so terrified of it ending horribly and taking my heart in the process.
It ended well. I don't buy that the police would let her go if they found the suicide note- but after the panic attack I got, expecting Gilda to be put in prison and dying by her own hand in desperation, I'm glad it didn't end that way. I don't think I could have handled it.. I got so attached to her. I wish I could help her. I wish she would let others help her. I'd like to think she found a support system and got better, instead of just slumping back into the bad place she was in and shutting everyone out. I hope Eli is okay, and that if he came out as trans, that things went well and the drinking stopped. This book was heavy, aggressively sad, and it stood out. I related so much to so many little things she mentioned. It's always the little things. On a happier note, it taught me a few things I didn't know, especially about the Catholic church. Those parts were interesting. I'll remember this for quite a while

Okay I'm actually obsessed with this book. Wow.

I have anxiety and I related to Gilda a lot while reading it (though she struggles with it way more than I do, and I have a much easier time asking for help). I loved the way this was written, in genuinely every way that could be interpreted. I'm amazed by how relatable and funny this was while also being so dark and existential. I was so drawn in and cared so much about what was going to happen to everyone involved.

Honestly I have absolutely zero complaints about this book. I mean...I wish maybe we'd gotten a glimpse of Eli at the end to see what happened there? But I understand why the author may have wanted to leave some things open-ended, and I'm satisfied with what we did get to see at the end. I can't recommend this book enough.
