I thought my love for this story would live only in the movie but I was so wrong. It was enjoyable to see how Billy grew into his love for ballet in a slightly different way than the movie and how his family accepted him in a time when it was taboo to do so. I would have loved if it featured a bit more vulgar language to suit the English language of that era and location but overall an amazing read and heartwarming story. Highly recommend.

It didn't go as far as I was expecting, but it was a thrilling read. There's a lot more to the story than gets passed around by word of mouth, with twists and strong sideplots. The temporal and spatial setting of the novel is well-explored, well-researched and is used in such effect with the rest of the novel. A heart-warming tale of more than you'd expect...

Yeap. Quite convinced that Melvin Burgess's work fits my genre - good thing I have another book of his I can't wait to read. This is sort of a classic coming-of-age narrative, about a young boy who has an interest for ballet ('stereotypically' seen as a feminine hobby).
I love it. I have nothing against it, very light and very entertaining. I highly recommend it.
