I started it (maybe made it through chapter two) and it never hooked me into the story, so I returned it to the library.

What straight hell is this? Ladies if his mum cares more about the wedding and he leaves you hanging because his job is more important than yours time and time again, put him in the bin. He never redeems himself never steps up and tells his mum to stop, she feels bad and forgives him but she shouldn't have because he his a toxic dick. He didn't even tell his mum they were engaged, get rid of his chicken shit ass.

I read a description. I couldn't immediately figure out where the book was going. I read the book.
It wasn't bad, it was just a bit of a slog to get through.

3 and a half stars - with thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I really like Sophie Ranald's books and that they are all written in the same universe with overlapping characters and features like The Ginger Cat.

But... I felt this one was lacking some of the usual sparkle and it just left me feeling a little flat. This is a story of wedding planning going wrong and whilst the romcom element was definitely there, I didn't find the humour so much. From the dragon mother in law trope to the repeated mention of how crazy expensive this wedding would be, this just didn't connect for me and I wasn't drawn into it like Sophie's other books.

That said, it's not a bad read and it was an easy and nice way to wile away a few hours. I really like Sophie's writing style and her characters are pretty relatable.

If you're a seasoned Sophie fan don't be disappointed by this solid piece of chick lit and if you're new then do definitely check out her other books!

With 'He's Cancelled', Sophie Ranald adds to her literary universe centring around the pub The Ginger Cat. This instalment mentions our prior heroes, Alice and Zoe, but this time we are following Natalie, You might remember her boyfriend Archie playing Scrabble and seriously flirting with Alice in 'Just Saying'. So I did not go into this really rating him as he emotionally cheated on Nat already... Great start.

In this book, Archie and Nat have been together less than a year but they are engaged and planning a wedding. Despite Nat having doubts about her future with Archie, she is forced to dive into extravagant wedding planning by Archie's wealthy mother and sister. Who needs a registry office and sausage rolls when you can have a stately home and peacocks? As plans veer out of control, the reader is left wondering whether the couple will make it down the aisle.

I did not enjoy this as much as 'Thank You Next' as I felt less of an emotional connection to the characters. Nat waits far too long before standing up for herself and Archie does not feel like a particularly redeemable character. (SPOILER His behaviour when Nat is assaulted by Archie's childhood friend is disgusting. He never really apologises - this surely would be a relationship deal breaker?? END OF SPOILER).

I always enjoy Ranald's books. They are light, funny and the connections are fun to spot. This is not my favourite entry to The Ginger Cat universe but it is a pleasant read. 3.5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Archie and Natalie are getting married. Except Archie’s mother and sister are taking over their wedding plans.

I really wanted to like this book, but the railroading of the mother and sister made it excruciating to read at times. I also just wanted to strangle Archie for being so passive and not standing up for Natalie. I think things got pushed too far than when everything had to ‘break’ for resolution, I didn’t feel as heartwarmed by the end. Just not enough layers to make me empathise enough.

This book had promise but I think really needed a bit more work.

This book was not it. There were some cute and funny moments, but most of this story just had me a little bored. The characters weren't good at communicating with each other and I feel like that had a major reason why I just didn't enjoy this. Plus her "in-laws" were so incredibly selfish I just couldn't stand them for most if the book.
