Definitely a slow book to start, but by three quarters of the way through, it picked up like an avalanche, I was getting whiplash left, right, and center with the many plot twists that kept coming. They were all so carefully crafted that the amount of foreshadowing and build up left the book with a very satisfying end, and makes me want to reread it now that I know where it’s going.

This book could comfortably have been half as long, and I think it would have driven the tension a lot better. I thought the fortune telling and mystic aspect would figure a LOT larger than it actually did; there was nearly no magic at all and I felt the description centered the square of sevens too much, and neglected the actual plot. The mystery and tension had nothing to do with the fortune telling. I feel like this book would appeal to people who enjoy English classic lit like Jane Austen and whatnot....and that's not me.
