Think this is the longest book I've read this year? I'm just gonna list a few pros and cons:
Pros--
- I'm amazed at the thought and research that went into this book. Reading the historical notes at the end of the book made me appreciate the story the author created so much more amazing.
- That end. Like. Damn. You got me girl, I never saw it going that way, and then another way, and then another way. Love a story that has me guessing.
- The characters and settings were excellently written. The prominent characters were all interesting, with complex personalities and backstorys. The places were vivid and it was a joy to read all the details.
Cons--
- It could just be a "me" thing, but even by the end of the book, I couldn't remember who the hell some of the side characters were and how they related to the story. I don't think it really impacted my ability to understand the story as a whole, but it did create some disconnect in the reading experience.
- Beginning was a little slow, I'd say about the first 1/3. The author has a lot of elements to flesh out for the sake of a cohesive story and I understand the importance. Not a big deal but it's worth mentioning.
Absolutely worth the read.

I drifted away from reading this and found myself not missing it. I just didn't really care about any of the characters. 🤷♀️
too long, too many characters to keep straight, and the inheritance/bloodline stakes weren’t compelling to me
