Parts of this book were enjoyable but there are very heavy themes that aren't enjoyable to read about, but still important and worth grappling with
The book is a collection of vignettes, which for me takes longer to read because I need more time to digest the writing
I will keep thinking about this book for a long time
But I don't know if I'd say that I like it

শিকাগোর মেক্সিকান-অধ্যুষিত এলাকায় বেড়ে উঠা এসপারেনজো করদেরোর গল্প "দ্য হাউজ অন ম্যাংগো স্ট্রিট"। এটি তাদের গল্প যারা দিন এনে দিন খায়, যারা কোথাও স্থায়ী হতে পারে না - ঘুরে বেড়ায় যাযাবরের মতো, কোনো জায়গাকে দাবী করতে পারে না নিজের বলে। যাদের থাকে একটাই স্বপ্ন - একসময়ে পরিচিত নোংরা-ঘিঞ্জি এলাকা থেকে পালিয়ে যাবে বহুদূরে, যেখানে থাকবে একান্ত নিজের একটি স্থান।

পাঠ-প্রতিক্রিয়াঃ

সাহিত্যের সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জন্রার একটি হলো Bildungsroman, এই কথা মনে হয় হাজারবার বলি রিভিউতে। বিশেষত বইটা যখন হয় এতোটাই বাস্তব ঘেঁষা। লেখিকা উল্লেখ করেছেন তিনি কখনো "আমি একটা উপন্যাস লিখবো" ভেবে এটি শুরু করেন নি। স্কুলে আশেপাশের অনেক বেশি আলাদা ছেলেমেয়েদের মধ্যে তিনি খাপ খাওয়াতে পারতেন না, বাড়িতে ছিল ক্লান্তিকর পরিবেশ। লেখাটাকে তিনি নিয়েছিলেন অনুভূতিগুলো ঢেলে সাজানোর একটা মাধ্যম হিসেবে। আর সেজন্যই হয়তো এত অনেস্ট একটা বই এটা।

তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করা হয়েছিল এসপারেনজো তিনি নিজে কি না। তিনি বলেছেন "হয়তো হ্যাঁ, আমি এসেপারেনজো। আপনি আমি সবাই এসপারেনজো।" সত্য বচন, সবারই একটা চূড়ান্ত স্বপ্ন থাকে, জীবনের কোনো না কোনো সমইয় সবাইই অনুভব করে, "পৃথিবীতে আমার স্থান কোথায়? আসলে কোন জায়গাটা "আমার"?" বইয়ের কথাবার্তা, ভাষারীতি, সর্বোপরি লেখার ধরণ কিছুটা টু কিল অ্যা মকিংবার্ডের কথা স্মরণ করিয়ে দিয়েছে। ওরকমই ক্লোজ-টু-লাইফ একটা বই।

Como 3.5, en realidad. Una historia contada de forma muy interesante con personajes muy realistas que toca temas que, aunque bien fue escrita hace bastante tiempo, siguen siendo relevantes a día de hoy y eso se aprecia por completo. Esperanza es el ejemplo perfecto de personaje complejo con intereses centrados que tanto amo leer, ojalá hubieran más. :c
