One of the classics of self-help in the area of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or schema therapy, a very useful companion to CBT work for anyone trying to understand and triumph over their negative self-beliefs.

Very informative read that gave me many things to ponder and discuss in therapy. I enjoyed the examples of scenarios and discovered more about myself during the read.

Fascinating information about the 11 life traps you get when you’re a child and how they follow you into adulthood. I took many notes.

Things I liked:
  1. Easy to take quizzes about your potential life traps
  2. Information on how to beat those life traps
  3. Information for people who are close to those with life traps

Things I didn’t like:
  1. No research in here. Just experienced psychologists
  2. Some life traps got a lot more information than others

In short it didn’t work for me, but interesting material with a psychological angle behind it.

I would recommend this book to everyone! My therapist recommended it and I found it useful.
I mentioned I feel that it is a merry-go-round with how the actions of what happens keep repeating. I was in a Lifetrap. I will be working through it.
I RECOMMEND: Taking the test in chapter 2, then taking the test at the beginning of each Lifetrap chapter. If you apply or someone you know applies to the lifetrap, read the chapter.
It was interesting because I started to see Lifetraps in the show I was watching: Parks and Recreation. Leslie Knope & Chris Traeger definitely have Unrelenting Standards and Ann Perkins has a bit of subjugation.

Great book and encourages self-awareness, but it can be very heavy to digest without guidance. This was recommended to me by my therapist but I'm not sure I could get through it alone, but great way narrow down personal hangups and how/where to start working through them.
