Forged by Blood is a fast-paced fantasy adventure that had me strapped in from the first page.

I had fun reading this! Some of the plot was a little predictable, such as the mates and the overall romance aspect, but there was one reveal that genuinely had me shocked. I liked learning about the lush world, although I would have liked to understand the magic system a little bit more. When I finished, I felt as though I knew barely more than when I had started. I wish we knew more about the system as a whole, the different types of magic, and how it manifests. It felt as though at every turn there was just a new kind of magic there with a brand new name and rules that differ from what the last one was.

The romance plot was well balanced with the adventure side, although it was clear from the beginning who she would "choose" at the end. That being said, I did enjoy the moments shared between the pair, I am a sucker for hurt/comfort.

Overall, I give this book 3.5 stars, and I am excited for the next one!

I received this arc from NetGalley and Harper Voyager in exchange for an honest review.

Soft DNF.  Maybe one day I’ll come back to it. I don’t think I liked the audiobook narrator that

DNFing as it's putting me in a serious reading slump. I don't want to pick this up at all. Some elements are interesting but the pacing is all over the place, the plot barely hanging together in alot of places and the characters are completely 2 dimensional. Also, why are there so many characters? This book is less than 400 pages, there is no need for so many side characters. We don't need to be introduced to everyone that our main trio come into contact with. The love triangle made me want to chuck the book across the room. Once again a Fairyloot "adult" pick turns out to be very YA, and not even the older end of YA. Needless to say, I will not be picking up book 2.

I really liked the world building and atmosphere, but the plot and pacing were all over the place for me. The beginning was intriguing, I really enjoyed the part when our mc we’re in the spirit realm but i struggled towards the last 30% of the book the pacing was just all over the place and i was mostly bored.

There was no need for a love triangle at all and one of the MMC was so irritating and childish.

Lastly I went into this book expecting an adult fantasy but it was very much a YA fantasy. This isn't inherently a bad thing, some of my favourite books are YA Fantasy but it’s  just not what I was expecting or wanting to read.

Even knowing that this is only duology I’m unsure if I want to continue on with the story.

This was a lot different than I anticipated. I loved the world building and the magic. However, I did think the plot was lacking in places. Things happened that didn't quite make sense or had no build up. It didn't stop me from enjoying a good majority of the book though.
