I have really mixed feelings on this book. I wanted to love it. I really enjoyed the first third with the family all being called back and the mystery of it all, the middle third alternated perspectives so parts of it were interesting and other parts were slow. The last third was chaos. I am still not sure what I read. Even though I am a fan of shorter books, this could have used another 100 pages. We also never learn anything about most of the characters and the family tree at the beginning could be deleted as most of it is never mentioned.

I wanted so much more and I think this had potential, but fell flat.

Gorgeous novel! Basically, Encanto for adults and I adored every second of it!!!

For fans of Addie Larue or All the Crooked Saints, Practical Magic or Encanto, a beautiful tale of legacy, tradition, family ties and what makes them real, stars and trees and rivers and soil that grows perfect coffee. Simultaneously lyrical and grounded  writing in this magical realism novel.

I’m not a fan of magical realism, but even I enjoyed this so I guess it says something about how good it is!

I initially fell in love with Orquidea Divina at the bookstore. The book cover is stunning and drew me to it from across the room. As I read the summary, I became more excited to read it once I found out that it was set in Ecuador, a country that I've spent a significant amount of time in and love dearly. Add in the themes of magical realism, family secrets, and travel and I was sold.

Once I got the book home, it sat on my shelf for several months. I almost felt intimidated to read it because I was worried I might have overhyped it in my head. Luckily, that was not the case and once I finally dug into it I really enjoyed it!

The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina is a gorgeous, literary experience that paints stunning pictures and mixes reality with magic in a way that really immerses you in the story. We are introduced to Orquidea at the end of her life as she calls all of her family to her to celebrate her life. Immediately it becomes clear that she is a unique woman and that her inheritance involves a fair bit of adventure.

If you are a lover of magical realism, reflections on life, relationships between family members, and adventure, this book is for you! It may be a bit quieter and more subtle than similar stories, but in my opinion, that is what makes it shine.

This book started out promising, but it really lost me near the middle and completely at the end. I just didn’t feel really connected to the characters, the multiple povs made it so you didn’t really know anyone. The plot was interesting and had interesting characters they just weren’t fully fleshed out or utilized.
