My rating is actually more like 3.5. This was an interesting read, and it was refreshing to read about witches and magic from a perspective that is entirely divorced from Harry Potter or the kind of magic you see with the Fae. This is the brand of magic that's more natural, a magic that is a gift to some humans and is governed by will as much as anything else.
Spoiler The bit about the Living Star read kind of weirdly to me and I would have preferred a better resolution.
Nevertheless, the themes of family and determination in the face of destiny were well incorporated and explored.

This book might not tickle everyone’s facts, but for certain people it’ll speak to your soul.

I can’t say what type of people those are, so read it and find out.

I liked that it was through the power of her family that Orquidea finally rid herself of her abuser.

I enjoyed the echos of Encanto and Cocoa in the heritage parts of the book - ancestors visiting and helping the living - passing down magical gifts.
