This was my first Picoult novel, which I picked up in an airport bookstore several years ago. It sounded interesting because I thought it was about the issue of assisted suicide. Unfortunately, this topic only comprised about 20% or less of the book. The main plot involved an adulterous relationship between two characters, Mia and Cam. I felt like the author was trying to make the reader sympathize and like them. I did not.

I little harder to get into at the beginning but I really enjoyed it in the end.

Disappointed by my own commitment to finish this book. Truly truly awful and a severe injustice to the sensitive nature of the book's advertised central conflict. Do not recommend to anyone.

I'm sad to say that this is probably my least (or second least) favorite Jodi Picoult book. I read about half the book before my library loan expired and I wasn't even too upset that I had to return the book. I was hoping that by the time I was able to check it out again I would enjoy it more, but sadly, that was not the case. I feel like I spent the entire book hating on Cam and not even wanting to read the Jamie story line. This book just did not hold my attention and I don't see myself wanting to read again or recommend to others.

Two stories of lopsided love, both heart wrenching. The story kept me engaged throughout and wanting more due to the strength of the writing. Characters were developed in a way that you could relate to, understand, emphathize with or hate. Overall, the storyline was predicable, however.

This was a typical Jodi Picoult book...

the description of this book is very misleading and 90% of the story is based around romanticing adultery rather than the moral ambiguity surrounding a trial of assisted-suicide in a terminally ill patient. while i have praised this author in the past for tackling huge and important topics and bringing them to light - this was not what i had thought it was going to be and i didn’t like multiple aspects of this book from characterization, themes, etc. i don’t recommend.

The first chapter of the book really caught me and I was really interested on where the author was taking me. I liked the storyline but the book was really about the journey of the characters and their growth. Having read The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon I'm into the Scottish culture these days and the references to that culture were nice tidbits. Since I normally read Fantasy books I'm trained to having lot's of action in my books and this was missing but the overall story was a good one.
