Too long to be this pointless. I kept with it, hoping it would get better now regret the time I gave it. Could have been half the length at least if the purple prose was eliminated. This book is just endless pointless descriptions over and over. The first couple hours were descriptions of some political landscape that had absolutely no bearing on the rest of the story. Countless characters entered and either left or died, 99.9% of the time I was left thinking "why was this character even included?" They served absolute no purpose, and seemed only to be there to make the story stretch on. The whole book felt like Lüthi was just writing scenes he personally felt were cool, instead of anything that had any real meaning. This book also fell victim to the magical POC trope, and somehow consistently was turned to with questions he shouldn't have had answers to- but he always did! Hardly even medieval, and often felt more straight fantasy than anything. If youre looking for a good medieval horror I urge you to not waste your time here and instead read "Between Two Fires" by Christopher Buelhman.

right away i found the writing off-putting, way too amateurish. felt like the author was describing, if not transcribing, a cheesy action movie. unfortunate, as the setting really appealed to me, and the characters definitely had potential.

Almost two hours in the audiobook, and I am wondering if this story is ever going to go somewhere. Other than that... Medival? Calling Germany eeeh, Germany? In the Middle Ages?
