I'm really just not a true crime person re: murder and other violent crimes, so this was a bit hard to stomach. I think the thrust of the book is interesting (metal processing industries leading to toxic waste which causes neurological poisoning and ups proclivities towards violence), but didn't find the disparate elements integrated well. The environmental history and info seems easily overshadowed by the gory true crime retellings and probably should've been the bigger focus, even if (likely) the balance of the two elements on paper is equal.

Here are my random thoughts that are probably different than many other reviews:
 - there is no discussion about the millions of people affected by the same pollutants that don't become serial killers.
 - you could buy a gun at Payless Drugs? "I'll take a triple cone of Medieval Chocolate and a 45 please." (or whatever, I don't know guns.
 - way too many serial killers drive VW bugs! (thankfully we owned a Fastback)
 - I can't believe they used teenagers (Scouts) for these searches! talk about trauma!
 - I was shocked by how many women went along with their rapists/murderers. I would never! (right?) But then I think maybe I wouldn't because I've read too many stories about women who did.
 - I kept waiting for a full circle moment to happen with the author's life. I don't feel like that ever happened.

Trigger warning for graphic details about real events, but such a great presentation of a theory and hypothesis backed with so much data and information to support her claim.
