The art is really beautiful, and I love the premise. But the story itself jumped around a lot and didn't have much impact. I was confused by the timeline - I thought a few minutes had passed in the story and then a new character talks about how long she's been training. The ending was supposed to be a dramatic reveal but felt pretty lackluster. I felt like it fed into the "not like other girls" trope too with how much pure hatred was directed at bubbly pink-clad girly-girl Cousin Jessica. It's unoriginal and boring to have the main character be summed up as "pink bad!" I expected more than that from a story that promised to fill a missing spot in the magical girl genre.
Overall I think this was a poorly done story with great art.

Quick, fun read. I first read on the Stela app, which it was written for and which has a very different format. An interesting look at cross platform comics. Beautiful colors.

Me: Well that's one of the more realistic depictions of middle school age I've seen.

I loved how colorful and full of fight this book is. I appreciate the celebrating girls who just want to kick ass and damn your Suzie Homemaker expectations. This made me laugh, and want to come up with my own battle outfit and super moves. If only I lived in a world nearly as fabulous as the one in the game!

Picked this up from my library after hearing one of booktubers talk about it. I'm so glad I picked this up and I flew through it. The images are colorful and vibrant and I liked the storyline of this comic book. I need more after that ending, here's hoping we get a second volume. I would absolutely recommend this book to others! Who doesn't love magic fight club with VR and strong females!

I was hyped for this book but the main character is some of the worse aspects of the “not like other girls” character.
The book takes place over less than a week where she barely talks to anyone and only one person is even slightly nice to her.
She has like 4 fights and two opportunities to train that she can barely use and she’s beat the most powerful member of that arena and on the way to the world tournament. And all because she gets angry.
Her power is OP and she was never even taught how to punch.
Like this is the opposite of a filler arc. All plot point no bonding or training or other things going on.
I don’t not if something was wrong with my copy some of the pages hadn’t been separated and some pages looked blurry and I don’t know if that was intentional.

This was an interesting take on the magical girl genre. I'm so here for secret badass magical girl fight clubs. I really hope there's going to be more of these eventually.
