Thank you @williammorrow for my gifted copy. The title comes from the icebreaker, two truths and a lie but in book form it’s all the truths, semi-truths and lies we tell others. Sherri and her daughter, Katie are new to clickish Newburyport. She immediately makes friends with Rebecca, who is part of a squad of moms who gossip, manage their children’s social lives and generally give real housewife vibes. Rebecca’s daughter, Alexa babysits Katie but is hiding a secret life as a popular You Tuber.

What I liked: I enjoyed the mom’s behaving badly vibes. The cattiness, the control they try to exert over everything and the struggle to fit in felt like some friend circles.

The town! The setting seemed very real to me and made me dream of a New England summer.

What didn’t work for me: I went into this thinking it’s a thriller. It’s more of a domestic suspense/women’s fiction about a particular group of women and their daughters. I was a bit let down by the thriller description and by the reveal of the “bad guys” Alexa thinks are after them.

Who should read it: You enjoy The Valley on Bravo, liked Pink Glass Houses (this has similar vibes), or want an easy to read beach book.

I kept guessing what was coming but it was always one of several options so I loved that. It all made sense when it happened and I was never bored. The characters were engaging & surprising - the character growth was gentle but felt really real. I’d go so far to call it coming-of-age even if several characters were technically too old for that description.
