This was light and breezy, exactly what I needed this week! I appreciated the Stars Hollow-esque small town the author created, and I loved the side characters as well. Not terribly deep but not shallow either. Worth reading! 4 stars

Cute and cozy! Not really a second chance romance, as Thorak bullied Mariah in high school - doesn't seem like he physically harmed her, but he and his friends made fun of her. That gets forgiven pretty easily, and it's very clear from the beginning of the book that Thorak just picked on her to hide his feelings, which is a trope that I know is problematic, but sometimes you can't help but eat it up.
Fake engagement leads to real feelings, the evil ex storms back in and mucks it all up and there's a small time hop to give everyone time to grieve before the big romantic gesture.

The story revolves around the romance of a human innkeeper and an orc that was also her high school bully! Through some unique circumstances, the two end up fake dating, but the chemistry between the two leads definitely wasn't a facade!

It is SO lazy to tell us things instead of showing us. I'm being TOLD about their relationship but nothing is happening on page.
Also... the MMC was absolutely despicable to the FMC in HS. He literally discriminated against her daily... it's not a misunderstanding, he was intentionally cruel to her. I've seen other romance books advertised with similar verbiage and those aren't nearly as cruel as this scenario (they're usually misunderstandings).
