It is SO lazy to tell us things instead of showing us. I'm being TOLD about their relationship but nothing is happening on page.

Also... the MMC was absolutely despicable to the FMC in HS. He literally discriminated against her daily... it's not a misunderstanding, he was intentionally cruel to her. I've seen other romance books advertised with similar verbiage and those aren't nearly as cruel as this scenario (they're usually misunderstandings).

Overall, I found the book entertaining and had a few fun hours reading this. It included some tropes I can enjoy in my books and that made the plot amusing. I would have loved to read more about the city and how everything works there, but I'm sure that there will be more about that in future books in the series!

Cozy little fluff novel, but loses half a point because of the ML begging forgiveness and crying while going at it. Not for a little bit, but it’s explicitly stated that it’s an entire night. I would be sending my dude to therapy wayyyyyyy before I would continue doing the deed. But that’s just a preference. Otherwise it’s decent fluff.

Fairly slow, all points of contention are menial and should have been solved way sooner than they were, stakes are INCREDIBLY low, but otherwise it’s cute. Wish there had been just one major problem instead of like four silly little ones, but here we are. Would be a four star if not for a bunch of little things that detracted from the overall. And the half point for crying haha.

DID NOT FINISH

At what point, in a bully-to-lover romance, do you expect the previous bully to apologize for their past behavior?

Admittedly, bully romance is something I avoid, and if I'd known that Thorak had been such an abusive jerk to Mariah, I'd have skipped this entirely. But.

But. I'm quitting at 31%, and all of his interior monologue is how sorry he is that he was mean to her, at no point does he seem like he's going to say that out loud with his mouth to her. (Apparently, he does eventually apologize, but he also says the he was bullying her to protect her from a vampire?? I don't know, I won't be reading that far.)

But none of the characters act like real adults (as another reviewer has stated, how on earth could Mariah be considered a good business owner when she doesn't have insurance against common issues, she doesn't know how to price her product to support the business and have any kind of savings, and there's basically nothing about her doing the actual job on the page), all of them are just stuck in Remembering High School Land.

I know I'm An Old, but honestly, I stopped caring about high school ... before I graduated from high school.

Anyway, I won't read any more of this author.
