Excellent start to the new series featuring Andrea. I love the side character, Roman! The writing team of Ilona Andrews once again puts out a winner. Great action, great dialogue, dry humor, a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and shapeshifters in love! What more can you ask for?

Andrea’s story, Anubis wants to come back to life, Roman introduced more fully, fun

I think this was more of a 3.5 stars. Maybe I'm just getting a little tired of the super-pretty super-tough (but dying for love on the inside) heroine with amazing powers that get even more amazing every time she beats the crap out of an unbeatable foe. Otherwise, this was a strong addition to the extremely imaginative world of Kate Daniels, but from Andrea's POV. It was a nice departure and gave us more background on Andrea, though now it seems like Andrea sounds more like Kate than she ever did before. But, it was funny, interesting and while the plot was both hazy and convoluted it was definitely enjoyable. I don't plan on handing it out at christmas, but I will definitely suggest it for fans of the series and/ or genre.

I love Andrea Nash, and getting a full length novel from her perspective is such a treat!

The exploration of her childhood traumas and how they impact her adult life was tactfully handled and masterfully written. I really enjoyed her character progression; her hardening into someone who could not accept love, after Raphael brought Rebecca, his gold digger, into her office and how she slowly softened into accepting love again. Her neighbor hugging her in her beast form was the perfect start to forming cracks in the shame and protective armor that had built up around her since childhood.

Doolittle is one of my favorite characters and his handling of Andrea's past and the way he loves her like a daughter was full of love. Meeting Ascanio's mom also fleshed out his character further and further humanized the pack. Roman is an incredibly enjoyable character and I'm glad he and Andrea became friends.

Andrea yearns for a family, for a community, a partner, and children, and she gets most of that in this book. The recording of Aunt B explaining to her enforcers why exactly they had fucked up by attacking Andrea and outlining her value; describing the intent behind her attempts to get Andrea to join clan bouda being because she would be a valuable asset to the clan and that they needed her healed some old wounds in Andrea. What Andrea doesn't achieve in retribution, stopping herself from killing the last living member of the bouda clan who made her childhood a nightmare, she makes up for in what she gains by joining the pack. I'm kind of mad that all the woman received was rejection from the pack and an order to leave Atlanta, but at the same time that order to leave Atlanta was done under threat of death. Setting Andrea on fire when she was 11, among the other atrocities makes her a irredeemable.

Raphael really loves her and the way that they made up makes sense for their characters. They had to understand one another beyond the honeymoon phase in order to truly grasp what was necessary for their relationship to thrive. I'm a big fan of the purple carpet prank.

I look forward to further glimpses of Andrea throughout the series and I am really hopeful for another novel or novella written from her perspective in the future.

These books are so much fun. I really enjoyed getting to see Andrea get her own story and the tension between her and Raphael. I also loved the introduction of Roman as another side character. I can’t wait to see more of him! ILlona Andrews really just writes characters flawlessly, and I adore the side characters as much as the main ones. Also Egyptian mythology and gods? Sign me up. I listened to this book on audio and I enjoyed it. However, it felt really long. When I felt the book was over, I checked to see where I was, it said 57%.
Andrea is funny, sarcastic, a loner and a fighter. I can definitely see why she gets along with Katie. They are so much alike.
I liked Raphael, and unlike others, I liked when he brought the barbie doll. It made his point well.
I will write a more concise review a little later

I was reading Magic Rises and found that Andrea and Raphael were engaged???? When did that happen????

and had to double back and read this book first.

I already loved Andrea a lot, and Gunmetal Magic simply doubled my feelings for her. Ascanio too is fast becoming my favourite. Roman stole the show as well for me; I hope there would be a spinoff novella about him.

Great book. Is it blasphemy to say that I think I like Andrea and Raphael more than Kate and Curran? They just seen more real to me. They have major issues but still manage to work things out. I'm a fan!
