My rating of this book is a little bit my rating of this particular book and a lot but my fatigue with the series as a whole.
Thete comes a time in every audiobooks/werewolf style series where I just get sick of all the alphas being all alpha. It's that time again.
Also I finally started asking where the electricity is coming from.

The only reason this isn't a 5 is because it didn't grab me right from the beginning. BUT I did really, really enjoy this story. So much happened in this and honestly I think I would have missed out if I went straight from book 5 to book 6, without reading this 5.5 book, ya know. Like another reviewer said, when I saw that there was an inbetween book, I really thought it was gonna be something short, but NO, this is like 326 pages of wonderful Kate-Daniels-World material, but like, from Andrea's perspective.
I really enjoyed reading more about Andrea from Andrea's perspective. I liked seeing her grow/come into herself through this book. I also really liked that Roman was a character in this book because I wanted to know more about the volhv from the moment he appeared in the previous book, tbh. He's such a fun character, I hope we get to see more of him in later books as well. While I was a little wary of how things in the middle of this book went for Andrea/Raphael, I'm still okay with how the book ended in terms of their relationship (staying away from specifics to avoid spoilers!).

I like it very much. Sometimes with authors that write long sagas with different characters what happens is that you just get new versions of the same character with a different name (i'm looking at you Wilbur), this doesn't happen in this book. Andrea is a different character from Kate, and it's interesting her take on her.
I particularly like Raphael. He's subtle. And that does not happen often in this sort of books where half the male characters are borderline (or way over the line) possessive assholes. Not Raphael. He felt hurt and acted like a child, but he gets Andrea and lets her be herself, which considering how terribly, deeply and seriously fucked up Andrea is, it was the only thing to do to get to her.
There's plenty of action and some hilarious moments. This is people that have been together for some while now, they know each other and function as friends and family. And there's also a funny volhv that near steals the entire book.
Besides, any book with a Hitchhiker's Guide reference deserves 4 stars in my book.

HAHAHAHA BYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYE
i'm literally so emotional right now oh my god. I LOVE ANDREA NASH!!!!! I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
she's so strong and fierce and SO WONDERFUL her friendship with kate is EVERYTHING TO ME her character arc in this book is SO IMPORTANT. she starts this book with almost nothing -- nothing but the solid unwavering support of kate and a steady job, she's lost the love of her life because they both hurt each other too much, she hates herself & what she is & can't face the fact that she's a shapeshifter. by the end of it she's found a family -- GIVE ME ALL THE FOUND FAMILY NARRATIVES, THEY LITERALLY KILL ME I LOVE THEM SO MUCH -- and reunited with her mate the love of her life the person who will be there every day for her no matter what & learned to accept herself and what she is and even love herself and the gifts and abilities her heritage give her & also found a surprisingly good & solid friend in roman (who i am apparently rly fond of????? i learn new things every day i had no idea i liked him this much but he showed up & i was like oh!!!!! yes!!!!!!!!) & i literally burst into tears reading the epilogue. like, full on gross sobbing tears of overwhelming joy and happiness. IT WAS TWO GODDAMN PAGES LONG. WHAT THE HECK!!!!!
i love the mythology these books use, srsly cool shit, and the final scene was really fucking cool. i'm not so into the shapeshifter courting rituals, tho -- breaking into ur potential love interests house & leaving signs that u were there as proof that ur worthy of courting is creepy, & raphael's aggressive possessiveness in the beginning rubs me WAY the wrong way. andrea one upping him on the pranking game was beautiful though, oh my god.
seriously, though, for anyone who needs the warning: this book opens up with vivid memories of the (srsly horrific, holy jesus) abuse andrea suffered as a child, and it's mentioned & described multiple times throughout the course of the book. so be careful & safe reading this if that's a trigger for u.
i'm gonna go read the novella & the end of this now, & it's long enough that i will feel absolutely NO SHAME WHATSOEVER for listing it as one of the books for my book challenge.
