This book drew me in and kept me entertained to the end, which is all I ask! It’s a perfect beach read in the thriller genre in that it’s not way too heavy, set in a tropical place, and has a decently happy ending. I enjoy St. John’s fantastical super villain-esque antagonists, but that said it obviously requires a significant suspension of disbelief. In comparing this novel to her prior, The Lion’s Den, I did prefer the prior due to the build of suspense and romance aspect.

While Lion's Den was tense, surprising and twisty in the best way, The Siren felt a bit too cliche for me. It was pretty obvious what happened from around the halfway point, and it was also fairly clear how the situation would be resolved. It wasn't bad, per se, and the author is very good at writing this sort of tropical thriller, but it's also nothing amazing.
