This mystery/thriller blew me away! I did receive an E-Arc of this book last year through Net Galley, but I did not get around to reading it until this year, and boy am I sorry that it took me so long to pick up! This story follows Claire after she is found alone in the woods with a severe head injury, and no memory of the last 36 hours. She was supposed to be staying at her best friend's grandmother's cabin with her best friend, Kat, and Kat's boyfriend and Claire's former crush, Jesse. The trio decided to ditch prom and have a weekend bounding, just the three of them before they all head to college and everything changes. Now Kat and Jesse are missing without a trace, and Claire cannot remember how she even got to the woods.
This story is told in dual timelines, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I really liked seeing how the details of the past became relevant to the crime that was committed in the present. This book is filled with twists and turns, most of which I did not see coming. There is a final twist revealed at the very end that will be very polarizing for readers, and personally I thought it did not add enough to the story to need to be included. However, it did not hinder my enjoyment of the overall story. I do wish we got to see a little bit more after the resolution, so I could feel more closure with the characters. Overall, this is an AMAZING novel and I infinitely recommend!

That Weekend by Kara Thomas was bad, really really bad. It was even worse than The Cheerleaders and that book was mediocre. I really need to be more selective with YA thrillers from now on.

Nothing is more terrifying than a villain who sees himself as a hero.

Since I spend some much of my precious time reading this atrocity, I will keep this review short. Everything about this book was underwhelming, messy, and disappointing.

The characters were badly written and they’re all extremely unlikeable; there is no one in this book that you could root for; they are all garbage with varying degrees. Even the ones we’re supposed to feel empathy or sympathy for are written in a way that makes it impossible to do so.

The story is messy and the execution feels choppy and all over the place. I saw some of the plot twists coming and it made for a predictable read. The only twist I didn’t see coming was just out there and so gross, it didn’t even cross my mind. I also think the book lacked nuances and stakes for me and that made it really boring. I didn’t connect to the characters and I didn’t care about what really happened.

So all in all, This was a colossal waste of time for me. I didn't have fun, I didn't care, I wasn't intrigued or invested or interested, Nothing moved me and it was just a broken empty experience from start to finish. I think I may stay From Kara Thomas YA thrillers from now on seeing as I never really enjoy them.

I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I was really hooked for the first half of the book. 70% of the way through I figured it out, and then the entire rest of the book was practically explaining what happened, and what came after. Which, I am glad to know...but like, I knew exactly how it went down. But for one little surprising tidbit. But it wasn’t enough to seal a great ending. Over all, still an okay to good book.
