This was VERY meh. The first half had me intrigued. I wanted to know what happened and I was engaged. When we found out Kat was alive and had faked her and Jesse's deaths to get away from her abusive family, it was fine. Not wildly unpredictable but not bad,

But then once we had Amos basically become the villain and kidnap Claire, things became a mess. First we had Claire who seemed INCREDIBLY unpreoccupied with the fact that her best friend was being abused by her father and instead kept talking about how Kat just wanted to take Jesse away from her. Like, what? Love triangles are fine but in no scenario should you care more about your crush than the safety of your friend. Clair was like "why couldn't Kat just wait until she was 18 to leave? And how dare she not tell me!" Like, what. I get feeling hurt that you were left in the dark and not trusted with the plan but Claire just became a straight up bitch once Kat was around. The lack of empathy was truly annoying.

Kat basically being a sociopath was disappointing too because then I felt like I had NO ONE to root for. She was using people and didn't care. And while I wanted her to get away from her family, the author seemed determined to make her unlikable as well!

And then the incest. Why, oh why, is incest a plot twist in this year of our lord 2022 (sorry, I mean 2021)? Kat's grandmother thought a vague pronouncement about Jesse being wrong for her would be enough? I know Kat was gonna be traumatized when she found out she'd had sex with her half-brother but, like, maybe we stop it from happening rather than hoping it sorts itself out? WTF. And then that Jesse knew?!?! I understand that his figuring it out coincided with his pulling away from and not touching Kat but seriously. We're to believe these two are so in love and he decides that he might as well not tell her something that will be catastrophic for her. Cool. Delightful.

Basically it was all fine. Not bad, just fine. The one major plus was I love Phoebe Strole so it was nice hearing her narrate lol

The mystery was good but the ending didn’t do it justice in my opinion.

This was wild 😅

Claire and her two friends go camping the night of prom but only Claire come home.

Claire is found by some hikers off the beaten trail. She has sustained a head injury and cannot remember anything that has happened in the last 36 hours but finds out that both her friends are missing.

This is a twisted crazy tale of the links people will go to in order to get away from abuse.

A twisted 4.5/5⭐️

A solid YA thriller with unpredictable twists and turns and the right combination of characters, clues, and drama! This one would keep just about any reader flipping pages quickly to see how it ends!
