I felt like I *was* Eva and Shane. Their emotions were so vividly and deeply described I was empathising so much and felt their emotions so deeply too. A perfect book.

I feel like this book did not give me as much as I expected. The ending was unnecessarily stretched and even though I adored the characters (especially the mother-daughter-relationship and the dynamic between Audre and Shane), the plot somehow seemed incomplete…? 

Yet, this novel is breathtaking, funny and reflective while dealing with the power of love, coping with your past demons and tackling todays racism. Beautifully written and gorgeous characters with hell of a trauma. I especially enjoyed the fragility of Evas and Shanes relationship: a honest reflection of reality. 

All in all: read this book y’all. It’s pretty good.

Ugh, this book gave me major feelings. Eva and Shane deserve all the happiness in the world, and I was rooting for them from page 1. I read most of this book over the course of an extremely long plane flight, then finished it this morning when I couldn't sleep due to jet lag, so not the most coherent review. But I'm so happy they found each other. Definitely review content warnings before going in if that's important for you, I found some scenes very hard to read.

The story of Eva and Shane finding each other after 15 years is interesting, but them together as teenager is really problematic. They weren’t in love, they spent a week together high and drunk, inflicting self harm and having sex. They had good character growth, and I liked seeing the “invisible disability” representation.
