Years ago I owned a sports car. It was a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. Over 300 horsepower of twin-turbo-charged fun. It had one unique characteristic not found in most sports cars of the time. It was all-wheel drive. Why in the heck would you make a sports car all-wheel drive? It’s not like you’ve got enough ground clearance to go off-roading with it. The answer was simple: traction. With all four wheels turning, it could convert the power in the motor into forward motion. I never spun the tires. The best I could ever get was a slight chirp before all four wheels started digging in and throwing you back in your seat. That’s what we need in our startups. We need something to transform the power of our idea, our innovation, into a business that’s making money and propelling us forward. That’s the subject of Traction: How Any Startup Can Achieve Explosive Customer Growth.

Good coverage of pretty much all growth techniques for startup. The strategy described in the book (bullseye) for applying the techniques of the book is among the "advanced common sense" sort of strategies, but still a great layout.

Lots of interviews with some good startup founders, feels like good, genuine advice. Easy read, as well.

Clearly describes 19 channels for getting customers, offering multiple case studies for each channel. A handy reference for someone who is more familiar with product development than distribution.

Most of this doesn't apply to me and/or I wouldn't be interested even if it did. However, I appreciated the focus on ethics and making a good product. Most marketing approaches come across to me as tricking people into buying, and this book was definitely not teaching that!

A great compilation of various ways for startups to utilize marketing channels to churn out growth. Some were better than others, and some I knew while others I didn't. Overall it was great feeling ether being refreshed or enlightened on these different pathways, and the book is a good jumping point for marketers looking to gain traction for their businesses.

Good overview of the many methods of gaining traction for a startup, though I think the book could have been longer with more examples and analysis of successful implementations of each method.
