I hadn't read Tropper before, and now that I've caught up with some reviews I see that one might assume he's a "you've read one, you've read them all" writer. I'd read another one anyway, given a little time between books. There were enough sharp descriptions, besides the widely remarked-upon snappy dialogue, to merit a little allegiance. This book, basically an entry in the "lovably bad dad" genre, suggests a more openly emotional, less accomplished (and far less geographically astute) Richard Russo book -- a Noboby's Fool cut with some Nick Hornby. Not in a bad way, but not in a very resonant way, either.

Fantastic! I absolutely LOVED this book. Jonathan Tropper does not disappoint. A beautiful reminder that it is never too late to salvage relationships and to change the direction of you life. The emotionally rich description of Silver's relationship with his amazing parents and teenage daughter was so spot on that my heart ached while reading about it. I read this book while on a long car ride with my family and they were completely confused as went back and forth between hysterically crying and laughing throughout the entire book. It was exhausting and exhilarating!

This man knows how to write a book! He never fails to make me feel all the feels and I adore him for that. Such an awesome read!

Not as great as some of his others, but he's a terrific writer. Good ending.
