Me he acabado este libro y… Wow.

Fabulous, and like The Song of Achilles her other book, Madeline Miller has repeated her beautiful writing style into what I can only call an adult fairytale worth the telling. The writing is beautiful the characters are amazing. It’s everything I hoped it would be.
Really enjoyed this. Found it a little hard to get into but I was soon enthralled by the great storytelling. Would definitely recommend.

A beautiful, poetic, cosy tale that nestles itself comfortably in its own warm corner of greek mythology.
But that corner isn't warm and welcoming for long. Circe, exiled for her less-than-divine behaviour finds refuge on her own island where she tends to herbs, plants, animals and most importantly: spells. Her exile is far from lonely. Visitors to her island come with a variety of intentions, and often not wholesome ones. It's a story of love, the comforts of home, redemption and finding your own way in the myriad pressure and expectation that comes with being a small fish in a pond of larger gods all with their own ambitions. Circe makes waves not just with her spells, but also in the hearts, minds and bodies of the mortals and immortals who cross her path, for better or worse.
Miller's prose shines with detail and warmth. Some of the imagery, similie and metaphor are incredibly beautiful. Miller composes sentences like a song, and sings the world to life in ways I hadn't seen before. Even if the plot dragged in a couple of places and lost its way in introspection and wallowing, the beauty of the words kept it afloat.

My second book by Madeline Miller (the first being Song of Achilles). It had everything the first one had. Beautiful writing, interesting characters that feel real and slow-burn romance. The Greek mythology was clearly very well-researched, though it could sometimes be a bit much information at once. The book was a bit too character-driven for me, there wasn't much plot. This made it a boring at times. The story also moved very slowly, which did not help.

This book is well written, but the drawn-out, convoluted plots of Greek mythology don't really do it for me. I didn't finish it, but if mythology is your thing it's certainly well done. It's one of those things that fits into the "not for me" category, and that's fine.
