as a huge x files fan started to read this short story collection with open mind & low expectation. And i loved it ! there are 15 short stories based on x files lore. Some are great and really capture the characterization of Mulder and Scully. sadly only few stories utilized it.

I've been reading books from Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick since I was a teenager. Every time I read a JAK or an Amanda Quick novel it's like meeting an old friend. There is something very comforting reading a story written by JAK/Amanda Quick since I know her writing and storytelling style so well after more than a decade of reading her books.

Trust No One is classic JAK style. Great characters (quirky/optimistic female protagonist teaming up with a mysterious/brooding hero), fast-paced plot with hiding-in-plain-sight killer and complex history set against a small town in the Pacific Northwest. I'm so glad JAK returned to her roots of writing these romantic suspense novels. Always a winner for me and never a disappointment.

The stories in this book are really hit or miss. Some are great and really capture the characterization of Mulder and Scully.
Others... Not so much. As other readers have commented, this book is very poorly edited. Not just grammar/typos, but continuity - the first date in the story says 1994, but then the next page says 1995. There were at least two stories where there were errors about what character was speaking. There are also X-Files continuity problems. I'll be honest - I'm a pretty diehard fan. And not everyone will care that actually, Scully HAS been to Maine or that no one can seem to get their eye colors right, but if you're an author in this book, you should also be a big fan, and you should know those things (and if you don't - look it up). But this would have all been fixed with a competent editor. Case in point - an author's name is spelled wrong on the back of the book. I mean, come on.

I don't blame the authors. The ideas are good. And I love this concept - it would be great if this became a regular anthology. Just with a better editor.

Worth reading for X-Files fans, as long as you know what you're getting into.

There is nothing like a bit of romantic suspense to put you on edge and making you wonder who the killer is. I of course always fail until it's so obvious that whoever could guess it.

Grace finds her boss murdered. So of course she is one of the suspects even if she has a good alibi. And there is something strange about the murder. It reminds her of another murder long ago. Not to mention it seems someone is after her too! So what is going on? Well, yes like I said before I always do try but can never figure it out, lol.

Julian is someone she goes on a blind date with. He is calm, smart, rich, former marine and someone who steps in when she needs it. Oh and of course they fall in love then. Slowly and good.

I liked the suspense, and the danger felt real. Nothing too crazy. But something (well sort of), that could happen to anyone.

It was a nice mix of danger and romance.

Was super excited to read a thriller romance for the first time in a while... super disappointed. No mystery, extremely predictable, very cheesy lines.

Trust No One is a terrific mystery. Just when you think you’ve got it there is another twist and turn. Grace is that girl everyone has heard of perky, optimistic and a pleasure to know despite her having killed a man in self-defense when she was 16. Grace has struggled to deal with the PTSD which has affected her ability to hold a job till now and now her boss is dead. Julius believes in the almighty dollar. Trust no one and everyone has a hidden agenda are the rules he lives by. Then he meets Grace and she rocks the foundation of his little world. Now if he can only keep her alive.

I’m a X-files fan, and most of the stories were entertaining. I’d consider this anthology maybe a four star. I’ve knocked a complete star off to reflect the needlessly pornographic story of a lizard who extracts underage girls ovaries with his tongue. It’s one thing to elicit shock value to further the plot and another entirely to do the same thing with zero impact on the story. The publishers should be ashamed of themselves for this story.

3.5. There were so awesome ones that were so Mulder and Scully that got their voices just right. And then there were other ones where they called each other Fox and Dana (I mean really, did the writer ever even watch an episode??) And then there's the one with the alligator man which is going to scar me for life. But overall, a fun read.
